Manchester United will continue talks with Newcastle United as they look to appoint Dan Ashworth as their new sporting director.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United will keep pushing for the services of Dan Ashworth. The Red Devils are keen on having the Newcastle United sporting director at Old Trafford and they will continue talks with the Magpies over the next few days as they look to reach an agreement.

Ratcliffe and INEOS making major changes at the club

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS have officially completed the purchase of a minority share at the club and with the takeover now approved by FA, they have full control over United’s sporting decisions. They are looking to make major changes at the club in order to ensure they have the best people working for them.

Ratcliffe’s objective is to have a structure that helps sign the best talent and nurture them into world-class players. They have already appointed former Manchester City chief Omar Berrada as their new CEO and are now keen on having Ashworth as their new sporting director.

The 52-year-old has done a great job at Brighton as well as Newcastle. He has helped both English clubs sign some of the best talents around and that is why United are keen on having his services.

United pushing for Ashworth’s services

They have been in talks with Ashworth for a while now, he has already agreed to a move and has also informed the Magpies about his decision. Following this, he has been placed on gardening leave by the club.

Newcastle have already started the search for a new sporting director as they are ready to sanction his exit. But, they will only let the 52-year-old leave on their terms. As per reports, the Magpies were looking for compensation of around £20 million.

But, the Red Devils have no intentions of paying that big a fee for Ashworth. The two clubs have been in talks of late and according to Romano, the talks will continue over the next few days as they look to reach an agreement on the fee.

United are keen on making Ashworth a part of their new project as soon as possible as they look to prepare for the upcoming summer transfer window. As a result, INEOS is expected to keep trying to strike a deal with the Magpies.
