Liverpool are pushing hard to bring 44-year-old transfer expert Michael Edwards back to the club ahead of next season.
According to a report by The Guardian, Liverpool are desperate to have Michael Edwards in their ranks to make sure they have a smooth transition post the departure of Jurgen Klopp. Edwards has done wonders for them back in the day and the Reds are giving it their all to bring him back to Anfield.
Liverpool preparing for post-Klopp era
Klopp’s decision to end his nine-year-long successful stay at the club came as a shock but he has given them enough time to prepare for the new era. While the Reds are on the lookout for a new manager with Xabi Alonso their priority target, they are also looking for a new sporting director.
Liverpool want to have the best possible man in charge in order to ensure they have everything in place to maintain the success earned in the Klopp era. The Reds feel their former chief Edwards is the ideal man for the role.
The 44-year-old has done a great job for the club back in the day and they are willing to put forward a unique offer to land him at the club as per reports. The FSG approached him back in January to resume his career at Anfield as their sporting director but he turned down the initial approach.
FSG keen on bringing Edwards back to the club
According to the report, they will have to offer him an even bigger role in order to lure him back. A powerful role where he gets to choose who the next sporting director and the manager will be, such as the head of football operations.
The Reds are quite serious about their pursuit of the 44-year-old and their owners met Edwards in Boston on Sunday as they want to convince him to be back to shape the next era. FSG’s principal owner John W Henry and President Mike Gordon were two senior executives who held those talks.
With Liverpool desperate to have him back in their ranks, it will be interesting to see if they can manage to get it done in the near future with the summer fast approaching.
