Bayern Munich will reportedly compete with Barcelona for 44-year-old in-demand Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi.

According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Roberto De Zerbi is the subject of interest from Bayern Munich. The 44-year-old has become one of the most highly sought-after managers in the world in the last 12 months. The Brighton & Hove Albion boss is also a target for Barcelona.

Roberto De Zerbi has seen his stock skyrocket since joining Brighton & Hove Albion. The Italian tactician entered the managerial world in 2013 with Darfo Boario FC but took over half a decade to rise in prominence. His stint with Sassuolo helped him become a household name due to his eye-catching brand of football.

The 44-year-old continued growing in stature during his short stint with Shakhtar Donetsk. But his stock has skyrocketed after joining Brighton & Hove Albion a month into the 2022/23 season. De Zerbi guided the Seagulls to a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League last term, qualifying for the UEFA Europa League.

Such a phenomenal achievement with Brighton has turned De Zerbi’s fortunes around, making him one of the most highly sought-after managers in the world. Recent reports have linked him with many Premier League bigwigs, including Chelsea. In addition, the Brighton boss is a target for Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Barcelona’s interest in Roberto De Zerbi comes in the wake of Xavi Hernandez’s announcement last month that he would call time on his stint with the club when the 2023/24 season ends. That has plunged the Blaugrana into the market for a manager. The Brighton boss has thus emerged as a viable target due to his style of play.

As for Bayern Munich, the Bundesliga champions have announced Thomas Tuchel’s impending departure. The former Chelsea manager will part ways with the Bavarian outfit when the 2023/24 season ends. So, they are scouring the market for a replacement, with the 44-year-old in-demand manager emerging as a target.

Bayern Munich’s entry into the picture complicates matters for Barcelona. The Bundesliga champions have the financial might to offer the Italian tactician a lucrative contract, which Barcelona cannot. So, it will be interesting to see where he lands if he leaves Brighton & Hove Albion this summer.
