Hansi Flick is reportedly “a hot candidate” to replace Xavi Hernandez, with Barcelona president Joan Laporta pushing for his signature.

According to reputed German journalist Christian Falk, Hansi Flick is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are in the market for a manager after Xavi announced he would leave at the end of the 2023/24 season. The former UEFA Champions League-winning coach has thus emerged as a top target, with Joan Laporta pushing for his signature.

Who is Hansi Flick?

Hansi Flick has had a topsy-turvy ride since entering the managerial world. A multi-time Bundesliga winner during his days as a footballer, he began his coaching stint by managing Victoria Bammental. But he only rose to prominence when he served Germany as the assistant manager, winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Die Mannschaft.

But the 58-year-old enjoyed tremendous success after returning to Bayern Munich as the head coach in 2019. Die Roten won every trophy at the club level with Flick in charge, including the UEFA Champions League in the 2019/20 season. But the German tactician ended his spell with Bayern Munich after only two years, moving to the international level.

However, Flick’s stint with the German national side was disastrous, as Die Mannschaft bowed out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in the group stage. So, his spell with Germany ended after two years, with poor results after the World Cup sealing his fate. But his stock remains high, with Barcelona interested in signing him.

Barcelona will have to delve into the market for a new manager after Xavi Hernandez announced his impending departure. The 44-year-old will leave the Blaugrana at the end of the 2023/24 season, leaving the club in a spot of bother. Several managers have already emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with recent reports linking them with Thiago Motta.

Barcelona Calling?

Hansi Flick has now emerged as a top target for Barcelona. The report by Christian Flick has revealed that the former Champions League-winning manager is a “hot candidate” to be Xavi’s successor. Joan Laporta is pushing for the German tactician’s signature.

In addition, the 58-year-old is ready for a new challenge and wants to move to a foreign league. So, the stars are seemingly aligning well for Flick to join Barcelona ahead of the 2024/25 season after Xavi leaves.
