Rasmus Hojlund is doubtful, but Andre Onana is fit to start for Manchester United against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday.

Manchester United will aim to extend their Premier League winning run when they lock horns with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday evening. And Erik ten Hag has greeted a mixed bag of updates on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

The good news is Andre Onana is fit and available after recovering from the injury he sustained during the international break. But Erik ten Hag is sweating over the fitness of Rasmus Hojlund, who has been battling to recover from a hamstring issue he picked up in Manchester United’s last game.

Meanwhile, Mason Mount (calf) and Christian Eriksen (knee) are the latest absentees, with the former’s issue, in particular, leaving the fans concerned. Mount and Eriksen have joined Lisandro Martinez (foot), Jonny Evans (thigh), Tyrell Malacia (knee), Casemiro (hamstring), and Amad Diallo (knee) in the treatment room.

The most eye-catching update is the return of Luke Shaw, who has trained this week. The English international has recovered from a muscle injury he sustained in the early days of the 2023/24 season. And Erik ten Hag provided a positive update on Shaw during his pre-match press conference. The Dutchman also spoke about Onana and Hojlund.

He said, “Andre is okay. He stepped in during training today, so he is good. Rasmus is a close finish, he is training, he is down and outside. He is making very good steps and we will have to wait until tomorrow to make a final decision.”

On Shaw, he said, “We can start by talking about his physical qualities, then his technical ability, his leadership. It’s clear. For a long time this season, we didn’t even have a left full-back so we’re happy he’s back. We’ll be more stable with him in the side – I’m sure of that.”

While Shaw should be in the matchday squad, the game has come too soon for him to be in the starting lineup. So, Sergio Reguilon will be Manchester United’s left-back against Everton, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka featuring on the right flank. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof should be the two centre-backs, with Andre Onana taking his spot between the sticks.

As for the midfield unit, Casemiro, Eriksen, and Mount’s absence means Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat should pair up in the double pivot. Bruno Fernandes will reprise his usual no. 10 role. Finally, with Hojlund touch-and-go for the starting lineup, Marcus Rashford will lead the line, with Alejandro Balde and Antony completing the numbers in the attack.

Predicted Manchester United XI: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Reguilon; Amrabat, McTominay; Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Garnacho; Rashford
