Predicted Liverpool lineup against Manchester City: Mac Allister to return; Gravenberch starts

Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch will feature in the Liverpool starting lineup against Manchester City on Saturday.

Liverpool have done reasonably well against Manchester City in recent years, and they are unbeaten in four of the last six meetings with the Premier League champions. However, the home side can be quite formidable at the Etihad, and they will fancy their chances when they host the Merseyside outfit on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool have no major injury concerns heading into this contest. Andrew Robertson remains sidelined following his shoulder surgery. Meanwhile, Thiago Alcantara and Stefan Bajcetic are long-term absentees, and they are only expected to return next year.

Klopp spoke about the injured players during his pre-match press conference, revealing only the long-term absentees are unavailable. He said “Only the long-term absentees are still out. No new concerns – before I entered this room.”

Alisson Becker will start in goal for Liverpool, and the Reds are likely to shape up in their usual 4-3-3 formation. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kostas Tsimikas are automatic picks for the full-back positions.

Liverpool are lacking in depth in that area, and the two players are set to start once again. They will look to add defensive cover to the side and help out going forward as well. Meanwhile, Ibrahima Konate will partner Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the Reds’ defence.

In the midfield unit, Alexis Mac Allister will return from his suspension, taking his spot as the defensive midfielder. He will look to anchor the midfield and break up opposition attacks. Ryan Gravenberch will add creativity to the side alongside him, while Dominik Szoboszlai will add physicality and drive in the middle of the park.

Darwin Nunez will look to continue his impressive goalscoring form, and he will lead the line for Liverpool against Manchester United. Mohamed Salah will start on the right flank with Luis Diaz on the left wing. So, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo will find themselves on the bench at the Etihad on Saturday.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gravenberch; Salah, Nunez, Diaz
