Real Madrid will have to trigger a release clause worth £10 million to prise Roberto De Zerbi away from Brighton & Hove Albion.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Roberto De Zerbi is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are scouring the market for a potential replacement for Carlo Ancelotti. But they will have to cough up £10 million to take the Italian tactician away from Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion.

Roberto De Zerbi had to bide his time before rising in prominence as a tactician. The 44-year-old entered the managerial world in 2013 with Darfo Boario. But he did not become a household name until joining Sassuolo in 2018, having managed four clubs until then.

De Zerbi’s playing style was a breath of fresh air in a largely dull Serie A. The Italian tactician made his mark with an eye-catching brand of football that tended to get the best out of the Neroverdi. Italian tactician’s next job came at Shakhtar Donetsk, but he only spent a year at the Ukrainian club before Brighton & Hove Albion came calling.

The Seagulls were in a spot of bother after Graham Potter joined Chelsea only a month into the 2022/23 season. So, Brighton turned to De Zerbi, who galvanised the first team and brought the best out of the squad. Such was his impact that Brighton finished sixth in the Premier League to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

De Zerbi’s impact at the Amex Stadium has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of Real Madrid. But Los Blancos will have to trigger a release clause in the Italian manager’s contract to prise him away from Brighton. However, paying £10 million for a top-notch tactician should not pinch much.

But the Seagulls are looking to tie De Zerbi to a new contract, which will also hike his release clause from the current valuation of £10 million. So, Real Madrid should pounce quickly to seal the agreement with the 44-year-old.

The Merengues are in a spot of bother over Carlo Ancelotti’s future. The Italian tactician might join Brazil at the end of the 2023/24 season. So, Real Madrid will have to resort to the market for a replacement. De Zerbi is one of the candidates on their radar. But it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid will cough up £10 million to prise him away from the Premier League.
