Nicolas Jackson and Carney Chukwuemeka will start when Chelsea welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Chelsea will look to pick up all three points and Mauricio Pochettino will also hope to start his reign at Stamford Bridge on a high when they host Liverpool on Sunday evening. The Blues were 12th in the table last season, and they will look to get back to where they belong now.

Both clubs will be aiming for the three points, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. Meanwhile, Chelsea will have to deal with the absence of a number of players on Sunday. Christopher Nkunku has been ruled out for several months with ligament damage. Benoit Badiashile and Wesley Fofana are also sidelined with injuries.

Chelsea are expected to start in a 4-2-3-1 system, with Robert Sanchez in goal. Ben Chilwell and Reece James will look to add width and defensive cover as the full-backs. Summer signing Axel Disasi is expected to make his Premier League debut here alongside Levi Colwill.

In the midfield, Conor Gallagher is likely to partner Enzo Fernandez. While Gallagher will be expected to help out defensively, Fernandez will look to carve out goalscoring opportunities and control the tempo of the game.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can protect their defensive unit and keep things under control in the middle of the park. After the departure of N’Golo Kante, Chelsea will need to bring in a reliable defensive midfielder before the window closes. Meanwhile, Pochettino spoke about new signing Nicolas Jackson during his pre-match press conference.

He said, “He’s a young player but I think he has the quality to enjoy being here and to score goals. I think we are enjoying in the way we are working. He’s working really hard, the quality is there. I think you could see in the pre-season games that he showed that quality.”

“Of course La Liga is completely different from the Premier League. That’s one of the reasons it was good for us to play the Premier League Summer Series in America in pre-season, because it allowed us to test ourselves against Premier League teams, it was really good for us.”

Raheem Sterling and Mykhailo Mudryk will be deployed as the wingers, with summer signing Nicolas Jackson is set to lead the line for Chelsea. Carney Chukwuemeka could start in the attacking midfield role. He will be expected to create opportunites in the final third with his passing, vision, close control and link-up play.

Predicted Chelsea XI: Sanchez; James, Disasi, Colwill, Chilwell; Gallagher, Fernandez; Chukwuemeka; Sterling, Mudryk; Jackson
