Chelsea have scheduled a second interview with 52-year-old UCL-winning manager Luis Enrique as the search for a new boss continues.
According to a report by Simon Phillips via GiveMeSport, Chelsea are keen on having Luis Enrique as their new manager ahead of next season. The 52-year-old Champions League-winning manager has already held talks with the Chelsea hierarchy in the recent past over a potential job. And he is all set to have a second meeting as per the reports.
The Blues have had a tough time since the start of the season. While they have spent fortunes on acquiring new talents, results have not followed on the pitch. The club did try their best to stick with Graham Potter. But, the results on the pitch did not improve. As a result, he was shown the exit door.
Chelsea have handed over the reins of the club to former player and manager, Frank Lampard. He will be taking care of the club until the end of the season. It will allow Todd Boehly and co. to take their time as they search for the next manager of the Blues.
While there are quite a few names on their shortlist, Enrique seems to be leading the race at this point in time. He has already held a meeting with the club. As per the report, he was in London to meet the people at the club. And, the talks between the two parties were positive. Chelsea now want the former Spain manager to come for another interview.
Simon Phillips said, “Julian Nagelsmann isn’t the only candidate that Chelsea are looking at. They’re also planning to bring Luis Enrique back in for a second interview.”
Enrique’s last assignment was with the Spain national team. The 52-year-old did do wonders with the team overall. But, when it came to the big event, the FIFA World Cup 2022, things did not go according to plan for him.
However, Enrique has done wonders in the past as a club manager. He guided Barcelona to the treble in 2014/15 when they won the league, cup and Champions League. The Spanish manager dominated world football with a fearsome attack that had Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar in their ranks.
