Tottenham have made a casual approach towards Julian Nagelsmann to understand his availability to replace Antonio Conte.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Tottenham have made an informal approach to begin their chase of Julian Nagelsmann. Bayern Munich relieved the 25-year-old Chelsea managerial target of his duties last week, with the north London side looking at him to replace Antonio Conte.
Tottenham decided to sack Antonio Conte one week after his outburst in the St. Mary’s media room. With the Italian deciding to heavily criticise Spurs players and ownership, his position became untenable. The club had no choice but to relieve him of his duties with ten games to go in the season.
In what seems like a rather fortunate circumstance for Spurs, Julian Nagelsmann became available in the last week. The 35-year-old German tactician got the sack from Bayern in rather bizarre circumstances. The Bavarians quickly appointed Thomas Tuchel, leaving Nagelsmann in the market.
Tottenham have sensed an opportunity following the Conte sacking and have been keen on pursuing Nagelsmann or Mauricio Pochettino. The latter seemed like the clear favourite to take over and return to his old stomping grounds. However, the circumstances have now changed for the Argentine.
❗️News #Nagelsmann: @SpursOfficial definitely interested! There has already been a casual request but no concrete talks or negotiations. Been told it’s unlikely that he will replace Conte immediately. He wants to take his time. #COYS @SkySportDE 🇩🇪 pic.twitter.com/EeTx6SZ7Qw

Tottenham could pursue Nagelsmann as their preferred managerial target. Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg has suggested Spurs have made an informal approach to understand the 35-year-old availability. He also claimed the former Bayern man was unavailable to take up the role immediately, which may work in favour of the north Londoners.
In a separate tweet, Plettenberg also mentioned Nagelsmann is a Chelsea managerial target. Todd Boehly does not guarantee Graham Potter his chance to continue at the helm but will decide on the Englishman’s future at the end of the season.
If Chelsea come into the picture, it could spell trouble for Tottenham in their pursuit of Nagelsmann. They are still awaiting any answer from the 35-year-old, although the pursuit may have come too soon considering the former Bayern man’s acrimonious exit from Bavaria.
For now, Nagelsmann remains the favourite from Tottenham’s perspective. Yet, amid Chelsea’s reported interest, things could get complex in the chase. The 35-year-old could have other options, but considering he might look for a role at a top club, the names have already been narrowed down.
