Tottenham will not make move for Roberto De Zerbi

Tottenham could discard the idea of appointing Roberto De Zerbi as Antonio Conte’s successor after a new development in the market.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham may pull out of the running for Roberto De Zerbi. The north Londoners will likely focus on Julian Nagelsmann after the 35-year-old got the sack from Bayern Munich. They feel the German is a better option than the 43-year-old De Zerbi.

Tottenham are making waves in the market as they search for a new manager. Current boss Antonio Conte is set for the sack, with reports stating the Italian could depart before the international break ends. The decision has proven tricky, with Spurs still searching for a top-four place.

After a massive outburst at the post-match press conference following the draw against Southampton, Conte laid bare the problems at the club. He criticised the players and the owners, which many suggested spelt the end of his reign in north London.

Whether Spurs bring in a manager straight away or hand in the reigns to assistant coach Ryan Masosn remains the question. However, the early favourite was former boss Mauricio Pochettino, with multiple reports stating the two parties may be considering a return.

Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi also emerged as a candidate after a brilliant season in the Premier League thus far. He has featured on the list of many clubs, including Chelsea if they were to dispose of Graham Potter. However, the Seagulls have reportedly promised him funds to build a project at the club.

Meanwhile, De Zerbi could commit his future to Brighton and continue what he has started. The 43-year-old has taken the Seagulls to seventh on the PL table. And there is a possibility of a fight for a top-four finish this season. Moreover, there is a hefty compensation that would be needed to release the Italian.

Back in north London, Tottenham had seriously considered one of De Zerbi and Pochettino until the big break in Germany. Bayern Munich’s surprise sacking of Julian Nagelsmann has opened the door to recruit the 35-year-old as Conte’s successor.

Tottenham are keen on Nagelsmann to become their new manager and could cease their pursuit of De Zerbi for the German. However, Spurs reportedly face the challenge of convincing the 35-year-old ahead of rivals Chelsea, who are also keen on signing him.

The London clubs could chase Nagelsmann as their priority managerial target for the next phase. For Tottenham, De Zerbi or Pochettino could become an alternative if they fail to persuade the German.
