Tottenham considering Julian Nagelsmann swoop

Tottenham could plot a shock move for Julian Nagelsmann to replace Antonio Conte, with the German set to lose his job at Bayern Munich.

According to Football Insider, Julian Nagelsmann has emerged as a shock contender to replace Antonio Conte. The German manager’s sudden availability could allow Tottenham to change their managerial plans. Mauricio Pochettino was the overwhelming favourite to take over from the Italian.

Things are moving fast in the managerial race despite a chunk of the season remaining. In what has been a ‘crazy’ 24 hours in German football, it could have ramifications on some decisions of English clubs. Yesterday, shock reports emerged of Julian Nagelsmann’s immediate sacking by Bayern Munich.

Soon enough, Thomas Tuchel reportedly became the man to take over from the 35-year-old at Bavaria. The former Chelsea boss has been out of a job since the start of the season. In the twisted turnaround at Munich, there could be ramifications of those decisions in England.

Tottenham, set to sack Antonio Conte, could look at the 35-year-old Nagelsmann as their new manager. Bayern Munich have not confirmed the German’s sacking yet. But reliable reporting confirm the decision from the Bundesliga champions.

Nagelsmann has guided Bayern to the Champions League quarter-finals. They remain second in the Bundesliga race, a point behind Borussia Dortmund. The drastic decision to sack Nagelsmann could have given rise to a few theories.

The most common one states Bayern wanted Tuchel to become their manager. But the possibility of the German joining Real Madrid or some other club in the summer may have alerted them. However, one has to think the relationship between the two parties may have fractured beyond repair for them to take such a drastic step.

Meanwhile, Bayern’s loss could become Tottenham’s gain as they could swoop in for Nagelsmann and appoint him their new manager. Mauricio Pochettino was the overwhelming favourite to replace Conte. But the tide may have changed for the north London side.

The situation with Conte has become untenable for Spurs, who may decide to sack him now than wait until the season ends. Conte will become eligible for a payout covering the remaining four months of his Tottenham contract.

As for Nagelsmann, he will have plenty of suitors for his services. Tottenham may want to wrap up the arrival as early as possible, with other top clubs likely to circle. Clubs like Real Madrid or Chelsea might sniff around for the 35-year-old Bundesliga winner, who may not be in a particular rush to make an imminent decision.
