Inter Milan may not look to replace Simone Inzaghi with former boss Antonio Conte, handing Tottenham a boost in their efforts to keep him.
According to Fichajes, Antonio Conte may not join Inter Milan as their new manager. The Nerrazuri have faith in Simone Inzaghi and are not considering replacing him with their former tactician. The news could boost Tottenham’s hope of keeping the Italian amid speculation he could depart.
Antonio Conte’s future as Tottenham’s manager remains in significant doubt beyond this season. Some reports insisted the Italian could face the sack imminently after Spurs exited the FA Cup and the Champions League. Speculation was rife after their draw with Milan at home, but the tactician remains in his place.
Conte’s arrival last season gave Spurs fans hope of winning a trophy and challenging for the Premier League. The Italian has won a league title wherever he has managed, but 18 months since taking up the hot seat, Tottenham have not seen any progress.
He helped the club finish abov3e Arsenal last season and qualify for the Champions League. However, the team has regressed in the current campaign as they revisit the fight for a top-four place, with Newcastle United, Liverpool and Brighton all fighting for the coveted spot.
As things stand, there are no talks between the club and Conte to extend his contract beyond the summer when it originally expires. Media reports have linked Tottenham to many top names, including Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim.
Fulham manager Marco Silva’s name was also mentioned, while there are others, including former boss Mauricio Pochettino and Spaniard Luis Enrique. Tottenham have not indicated yet they want to part ways with Conte, and neither has the Italian. He insisted they would speak with each other in the summer to decide the next phase.
Inter Milan were linked with re-appointing Conte at the helm after two disappointing seasons with Simone Inzhagi. The latter has not made any significant strides at the San Siro concerning the Serie A title and in the Champions League.
Yet, the report insists Inter Milan are ready to keep faith in Inzhagi and not look to replace him with former boss Conte. The news may boost Tottenham’s efforts to retain their current manager if they wish for him to stay put.
The future of Conte remains in doubt, but there’s a slim chance he could remain at the helm if results improve between now and the end of May. For now, a move to Inter Milan may have been ruled out, but even they could make a firm decision on Inzaghi in the summer.
