Real Madrid will consider appointing 51-year-old Argentine manager Mauricio Pochettino to replace Carlo Ancelotti when the Italian tactician leaves.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Mauricio Pochettino has emerged on Real Madrid’s radar again. The reigning La Liga champions are mulling over replacing Carlo Ancelotti with the Argentine manager. And the third time might be the charm if they pursue the former Tottenham head coach.

Mauricio Pochettino has been one of the best young managers in the world in the past decade. The 51-year-old, who played for some well-known clubs like Espanyol, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bordeaux, cut his teeth at Espanyol. And after a short stint with Southampton, he rose to prominence at Tottenham.

The Argentine tactician spent five years with Tottenham, guiding them to the UEFA Champions League final in 2019. During Pochettino’s reign, the north London club also became regular in the Premier League top four. But after a disastrous start to the 2019/20 season, he left Tottenham and embarked on a hiatus.

Real Madrid first attempted to appoint Pochettino during his stint with Tottenham. But the north London club did not entertain any offers for the 51-year-old Argentine manager. Meanwhile, his fourth managerial job was at his former club Paris Saint-Germain, where he won his first trophies.

The former Tottenham boss guided PSG to three trophies, including the 2021/22 Ligue 1 title. But that was not enough to save his job, as he left PSG last summer, with Christophe Galtier replacing him. Since then, several clubs have shown interest in Pochettino, including Chelsea. And Real Madrid will look to appoint him as the new manager again.

The report claims that Real Madrid again attempted to sign the experienced manager. But this time, he was at PSG, so a move failed to materialise. But with Pochettino yet to accept any offers, third time might be the charm for Real Madrid. And they view the 51-year-old Argentine manager as a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti.

Ancelotti is under pressure amid Real Madrid’s faltering La Liga title defence. And it will not be surprising if the Italian tactician leaves if the Merengues fail to win a trophy this season. If that happens, Pochettino will become one of the favourites to replace Ancelotti. And it will be interesting to see if a move sees the light of day.
