Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing 43-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi to replace Graham Potter.
A report from Football Insider claims that Chelsea have a genuine interest in 43-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto De Zerbi. And they are hoping to bring him in to replace Graham Potter at Stamford bridge.
De Zerbi replaced Potter at Brighton, and it will be interesting to see if he replaces Potter at Stamford Bridge as well. The Italian tactician has made quite an impression since his move to the Premier League, with Brighton excelling under him. The Seagulls have played a free-flowing brand of attacking football this season and are currently eighth in the league table.
Brighton are just four points adrift of the top six. And there is no reason why they cannot chase European qualification this season. Furthermore, they have punched above their weight and outperformed clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool this season. Interestingly, both Chelsea and Liverpool are now showing interest in the 43-year-old.
Chelsea tenth in the league table, and Graham Potter has not been able to get the best out of his players despite significant backing in the transfer market. Club co-owner Todd Boehly has spent massive sums of money to improve the playing squad. But Chelsea have found it difficult to get going under Potter.
The former Brighton manager is clearly under tremendous pressure at Chelsea. And it remains to be seen whether he can salvage the situation and get the Blues back on track. Missing out on Champions League qualification would be a devastating blow for the London club. And it could result in the sacking of Potter at the end of the season.
The former Brighton manager must ensure that Chelsea finishes in the top four so that he can hold on to his job for another season. Meanwhile, De Zerbi has proven his quality in the Premier League and he could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for the Blues.
The 43-year-old could be tempted to join a massive club like Chelsea who have the resources to help him compete at the highest level. But the west Londoners are also showing interest in other managers, including Thomas Frank.
