Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on returning to Stamford Bridge by rejoining the Blues.
According to a report from GiveMeSport, 60-year-old Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho wants to return to Chelsea. And he approached prospective new buyers of the club when they were up for sale.
Apparently, Mourinho wanted the prospective buyers to put him in charge of the club after the takeover. However, Todd Boehly and co. decided to appoint Graham Potter as the west London club’s manager.
Simon Phillips told GMS, “It’s true, I heard this months ago and I actually reported it on my site because I was told that Mourinho approached some of the potential Chelsea buyers when the club was first up for sale through Jorge Mendes, obviously, the agent who has good connections with Mourinho and Chelsea.”
“He said ‘I want to come back to the club, if you’re thinking about a new manager, I want to come back for a third spell’, so Mourinho is keen to come back to Chelsea that’s 100% true.”
Potter is currently under a lot of pressure after a disappointing set of results. And the Blues are in real danger of missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification. The new owners have pumped a considerable amount of money into the playing squad, and they will want to see a return on their investment now.
Chelsea will be expected to secure Champions League qualification. And if Potter fails to turn things around at Stamford Bridge, it would not be surprising if the new owners decided to make a managerial change. Apparently, Mourinho’s representatives have let it be known to the Chelsea hierarchy that he would be keen to replace Potter in the near future.
Mourinho has had an impressive spell at AS Roma, and he helped them win the UEFA Europa conference league last season. The 60-year-old experienced immense success as the Chelsea manager in the past. And it is no surprise that he wants to come back to the club once again.
It Is evident that Mourinho has a special place in his heart for Chelsea. And he will be hoping to cement his legacy at Stamford Bridge with more trophies in the coming seasons. Chelsea have brought in a number of top-class players over the last few months. And Mourinho could certainly mould them into top-class players and transform the Blues into a title-winning side once again.
The Portuguese manager has proven himself across multiple leagues and there is no doubt that he is a world-class coach. Meanwhile, the report also adds that Chelsea plan to stick with Graham Potter for the foreseeable future, and there might not be a vacancy at Stamford Bridge anytime soon. But Chelsea have reportedly shown interest in Luis Enrique.
As for Mourinho, the 60-year-old manager won three Premier League titles, three League Cup trophies, one FA Cup and one Community Shield during his time at Stamford Bridge. And it remains to be seen whether Boehly is willing to bring him back for a third spell at the London club in the near future.
