Manchester United will hope to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals when they host Burnley at Old Trafford in the Round of 16 on Wednesday night. And Erik ten Hag has a few players missing ahead of his side’s first fixture after the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Almost every player who saw his team bow out of the quarter-finals has resumed training. Diogo Dalot is the only one missing due to some lingering fitness issues. But players like Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, and Harry Maguire are available to take on Burnley.

Manchester United vs Burnley Preview: Probable Lineups, Prediction, Tactics, Team News & Key Stats

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are unsurprisingly unavailable after reaching the World Cup final with their nations. And the duo will unlikely feature for Manchester United before the turn of the year. So Maguire and Victor Lindelof should pair up at the heart of the defence against Burnley.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka might earn a rare start this season, with the 25-year-old facing an uncertain future at Manchester United. Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia should feature as the left-back, with Luke Shaw recharging his batteries for the upcoming Premier League test. Martin Dubravka, who made his Manchester United debut in the previous round, will likely return between the sticks.

As for the midfield unit, Casemiro should get some more time to regain peak sharpness. So Scott McTominay and Christian Eriksen will likely form the partnership in the double pivot. Fred will be an option on the bench for ten Hag.

Meanwhile, Donny van de Beek will have the opportunity to make his mark on ten Hag. But Bruno Fernandes might be an option on the bench if things are not going in Manchester United’s favour in the second half.

Alejandro Garnacho has been establishing a foothold at Manchester United this season. And the teenage prodigy should start on the left flank, with Marcus Rashford featuring on the bench. Anthony Elanga will likely take his spot on the opposite wing. And finally, Anthony Martial should spearhead the attack against Burnley.

Predicted Manchester United XI: Dubravka; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia; Eriksen, McTominay; Elanga, van de Beek, Garnacho; Martial
