Raphael Varane might replace Harry Maguire when Manchester United and Liverpool face off at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Manchester United will be desperate to get their first points on the board this season when they play hosts to Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night. And Erik ten Hag has had some positive news to greet ahead of his team’s latest fixture.

Anthony Martial might be in contention to feature after resuming training this week. The French international has recovered from a hamstring injury and will hope for some minutes against Liverpool. But Victor Lindelof and Facundo Pellistri remain sidelined with their respective injuries.

In addition, Manchester United’s latest signing, Casemiro, will not feature against Liverpool as he is yet to formally complete his move from Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag had a conversation with the Manchester United media, where he revealed the team news for the Liverpool clash.

The Manchester United boss did not reveal much apart from the updates on Lindelof and Martial, saying, “Victor has not returned to the training pitch, but the good news is that Anthony Martial is back in training with the team.”

Manchester United vs Liverpool Preview: Probable Lineups, Prediction, Tactics, Team News & Key Stats

Erik ten Hag will likely make a few major changes to the starting lineup, with Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw at risk of dropping to the bench. Raphael Varane should replace Maguire at the heart of the Manchester United defence, with Tyrell Malacia starting in place of the underperforming Shaw.

Varane should form the central defensive partnership with Lisandro Martinez, with Diogo Dalot completing the defensive unit, providing cover to David de Gea. The only other change to the starting lineup might come in the midfield unit, with Donny van de Beek hopeful of earning a call-up.

The Dutch midfielder should replace Christian Eriksen, lining up alongside Bruno Fernandes and Fred in the middle of the park. Eriksen and Scott McTominay will be options on the bench for the Manchester United boss against Liverpool.

As for the offensive unit, Martial might not be fit enough to start but will likely appear off the bench on Monday. Cristiano Ronaldo will thus spearhead the Manchester United attack against Liverpool, with Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho retaining their spots on the flanks. Anthony Elanga and Martial will be backup attacking options for ten Hag.

Predicted Manchester United XI: de Gea; Dalot, Varane, Martinez, Malacia; Fernandes, Fred, van de Beek; Sancho, Ronaldo, Rashford

I will pick Ericson ahead of Van De Been, and Garnacho ahead of Sancho, I would pick Marcial ahead of Ronaldo. I would try out Martinez in the DM position but I am not the coach so we watch
