Manchester City are leading Arsenal and other clubs in the race to sign Atletico Mineiro starlet Savio after submitting an official bid for the teenager.

According to Italian journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City have submitted an official bid of €6.5 million plus add-ons to sign Atletico Mineiro wonderkid Savio, who is also a target for Arsenal.

Savio came through the ranks at Atletico Mineiro and broke into the first-team setup in 2020. The 17-year-old has featured 23 times for the Brazilian outfit thus far but is yet to score or assist a goal. Despite that, the teenage winger is held in high regard in his homeland, while his potential has attracted interest from several top clubs from Europe.

Manchester City have shown the strongest interest in the teenage prospect and have already acted upon it by launching an official bid for Savio. As per the update from Romano, the Premier League champions have tabled an offer of €6.5 along with bonuses to secure the signing of the teenage prodigy.

Manchester City have been increasing their presence in the Brazilian market in recent times, having secured the signings of prospects like Yan Couto and, more recently, Kayky. The latter was signed from Fluminense last April and joined the club in the summer. He has featured sparingly in cup competitions for Pep Guardiola’s side.

It seems like the Cityzens are working towards striking a similar deal for Savio. The English giants face competition from Premier League rivals Arsenal, who were also keen on the 17-year-old prospect.

The Gunners have also been looking at the Brazilian market regularly in recent years thanks to the increased influence of technical director Edu. Gabriel Martinelli has proven to be a shrewd acquisition for Arsenal. They are on the lookout for similar talents in the South American market, with Savio emerging as a target.

Apart from Arsenal and Manchester City, there was also strong interest from the Red Bull Group. However, it seems like the Cityzens are set to beat their competitors to the punch, having submitted an official offer.

Should the Premier League champions complete the deal, they could send Savio out on loan to Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, who see the teenager as an exciting player.
