La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old Belgian defender Jason Denayer on a Bosman move in the summer.

As reported by Spanish publication AS, Jason Denayer is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old could leave Lyon as a free agent after the ongoing campaign ends.

Jason Denayer has gone from strength to strength since leaving Manchester City to join Lyon in August 2018. Now a mainstay for club and country, the Belgian international has established himself as one of the best defenders in Ligue 1 in the last three and a half years.

To date, Denayer has made 136 appearances for Lyon, with 17 outings coming in the ongoing season. But the Ligue 1 giants are in a spot of bother over the player’s long-term future as he has entered the final six months of his contract. The 26-year-old’s situation has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid could enter the transfer market for a centre-back in the summer transfer window as Jesus Vallejo has failed to force his way into Carlo Ancelotti’s plans since returning from a loan spell with Granada. The Spaniard is set to leave Real Madrid in the summer, which will open up a spot in the club’s defensive unit.

With Nacho on the wrong side of 30 and a backup option at best, the need to sign a centre-back in the summer transfer window could well be urgent for Real Madrid. To that end, several central defenders have emerged on Los Blancos’ radar, with recent reports claiming that Wesley Fofana could be a priority target.

Widespread reports had initially claimed that Antonio Rudiger was a key target for Real Madrid, but his wage demands seem to have put them off pursuing him. As a result, the Spanish giants have had to seek alternatives from the transfer market, with Denayer emerging as a viable target.

Apart from Real Madrid, the 26-year-old is also a target for Juventus. At the same time, he has also been linked with Barcelona. And with every passing week, Denayer could be getting closer to the exit door at Lyon, with the Ligue 1 giants currently fighting a losing battle to retain his services.
