Real Madrid will not be signing Matthias Ginter this month, reportedly rejecting the chance to sign the 28-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach defender.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Matthias Ginter has been offered several times to Real Madrid over a possible cut-price move in the January transfer window. But the Spanish giants have no interest in securing the services of the 28-year-old Borussia Monchengladbach defender this month.

Matthias Ginter has come leaps and bounds since joining Borussia Monchengladbach from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund in July 2017. In the last four and a half years, the German international has established himself as one of the best defenders in Bundesliga while also becoming a mainstay at the back for Die Mannschaft.

To date, the 28-year-old has made 167 appearances for Gladbach, with 19 of those coming in the ongoing season. But Ginter is now set to embark on a new adventure, as he has confirmed that he will leave the Bundesliga club when his contract runs out in the summer. However, the player has also been offered to several clubs for a cut-price January move, with one such outfit being Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants could enter the transfer market for a centre-back in the summer to add worthy competition for Eder Militao and David Alaba. While the first-choice centre-backs have been largely solid this season, there is very little quality beyond them in the Real Madrid squad.

Nacho is a backup option at best and has failed to deliver the goods when starting games regularly. On top of that, Jesus Vallejo has not convinced Carlo Ancelotti of his qualities and will likely be sold at the earliest opportunity amid interest from several clubs, including Valencia.

But there is no inclination that Real Madrid could sign a centre-back this month, with links with all their central defensive targets, including Presnel Kimpembe, pertaining to a summer move. So it is hardly surprising that the Merengues have turned down the chance to sign Ginter in the ongoing transfer window.

Seldom have Real Madrid entered the market for reinforcements in the January transfer window, and that is not going to change this year. With his team performing admirably across competitions, Ancelotti is content with the squad at his disposal and will only sanction major changes in the summer transfer window. As for Ginter, the 28-year-old is a January target for many other clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, but it is unlikely he will leave Gladbach this month.
