Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on Agustin Rossi and are weighing up signing the 26-year-old Argentine goalkeeper.

According to ESPN reporter Diego Monroig on SportsCenter, Agustin Rossi is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the ongoing transfer window. This month, the 26-year-old Boca Juniors goalkeeper could replace wantaway Brazilian shot-stopper Neto.

Agustin Rossi spent most of his formative years with Chacarita Juniors before progressing to their first-team setup in 2014. Since then, the Argentine goalkeeper has represented five other clubs, and it is only after a successful loan spell at Club Atletico Lanus in 2020 that he has found some stability in his career.

The 26-year-old enjoyed a solid campaign with Boca Juniors in 2021, keeping 16 clean sheets in 32 games across all competitions. Rossi’s solid performances earned him his maiden call-up to the Argentine national side last year, although he is yet to make his debut. At the same time, the player has also popped up on the radar of Barcelona.

Barcelona could be forced into the market for a goalkeeper this month, as Neto is eager to call it quits at Camp Nou. The Brazilian shot-stopper’s frustrations have boiled over after failing to usurp even a sub-par Marc-Andre ter Stegen, which is why he is seeking a January departure from Barcelona.

The experienced goalkeeper has been linked with Brazilian giants Flamengo, while several clubs in Europe have also expressed an interest in signing him. Neto’s departure will leave Barcelona in need of signing a replacement, especially because they are also seeking a loan move for Inaki Pena.

Stole Dimitrievski had emerged as a possible candidate to replace Neto, but the North Macedonian goalkeeper looks set to embark on an adventure to the Middle East instead. That is why the Catalan giants have now turned their attention towards Rossi.

While Barcelona’s interest in Rossi is in its infancy stage, they are considering launching an offensive for him this month. And the 26-year-old Argentine goalkeeper could not only replace Neto, but also become ter Stegen’s successor in due course. With the German international linked with Bayern Munich, Rossi could become the first-choice goalkeeper for Barcelona next term if signed.
