Leeds United are reportedly on the brink of completing their maiden signing of the January transfer window by landing Nicolas Raskin in a £6 million deal.

According to a report by Sunday Mirror (16th January, page 73), as relayed by Football Fancast, Nicolas Raskin is set to arrive at Leeds United this month in a £6 million deal. The Whites have reached an agreement with Standard Liege over the transfer of the Belgian midfielder.

Nicolas Raskin is widely regarded as one of the most gifted midfielders in Belgium at the moment, having gone from strength to strength since returning to Standard Liege from KAA Gent in 2019. The 20-year-old spent his formative years at the three most prestigious Belgian clubs, which has shown in his game.

A technically adept midfielder, Raskin is a workhorse that can reprise various roles in the middle of the park. To date, the youngster has made 68 appearances for Standard Liege and currently represents the Belgian under-21 side. Raskin’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Leeds United among the clubs keen on signing him.

The interest from Leeds United stems from their crippling injury crisis this season that has blighted key midfielder Kalvin Phillips, in particular. The English international has spent more time on the sidelines in the ongoing campaign than on the pitch, and that has affected Leeds’s performances.

With Phillips also linked with some of the biggest clubs in Europe, including Liverpool and Real Madrid, Leeds United must enter the transfer market for a midfielder who can provide cover for him in the ongoing campaign and be his long-term replacement at Elland Road.

The Whites have thus been linked with several midfielders this month, including Jason Knight, Seko Fofana and John Swift, with Raskin now emerging on their radar. And it looks like Leeds’s movements in the transfer market have been swift, as they have already reached an agreement to sign the 20-year-old.

The Belgian under-21 international will be the first January signing for Leeds, arriving at Elland Road in a £6 million deal, if the report by Sunday Mirror is to be believed. So after being awfully quiet in the transfer market, Leeds could soon be up and running in the ongoing window, with Raskin joining the West Yorkshire club in a £6 million transfer.
