Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Alessio Romagnoli on a Bosman move in the summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona, Manchester City, and Manchester United are keen on signing Alessio Romagnoli. The AC Milan captain could become a free agent in the summer transfer window and is open to joining the Blaugrana on a Bosman move.
Alessio Romagnoli has come a long way since joining AC Milan from AS Roma in August 2015, serving the Rossoneri as the club captain for several years. Widely regarded as one of the best defenders in Serie A, the 26-year-old has played a key role in Milan’s ascent in the last few seasons.
Romagnoli has turned out 239 times for AC Milan to date but might have only a few more appearances left to make for the Serie A giants. The 26-year-old is in the final year of his current contract, with developments on the renewal front being eerily slow. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona, Manchester City and Manchester United.
Barcelona will need to invest in a centre-back in the summer despite signing one in the previous transfer window. But with Eric Garcia largely flattering to deceive and Gerard Pique approaching the end of his glittering career, Barcelona must sign a central defender in the summer, especially with Samuel Umtiti deemed surplus to requirements.
Romagnoli is thus a viable target for Barcelona, who are reportedly leading the race to sign him. Manchester City’s interest in Romagnoli is a tad-bit surprising, considering they are the most solid team in the Premier League. However, Aymeric Laporte has recently been linked with Barcelona, although the Citizens are unwilling to sell him.
With Nathan Ake facing an uncertain future at the Etihad, Manchester City could be forced into the transfer market, making Romagnoli an option worth considering. Finally, Manchester United’s need to sign a centre-back stems from Harry Maguire’s inconsistencies this term, while Eric Bailly and Phil Jones could be offloaded in the summer.
Romagnoli is thus an attractive option for Manchester United, although Barcelona might have the best chance of snapping him up. According to Fichajes, the AC Milan captain is open to joining the Blaugrana on a Bosman move, leaving Manchester City and Manchester United with an uphill task to secure his services.
