Eden Hazard is reportedly open to the prospect of returning to Chelsea, with the Blues ready to bring him back from Real Madrid.
According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Eden Hazard has popped up on the radar of Chelsea over a possible move in the January transfer window. The Blues are eyeing a move to re-sign the Real Madrid outcast, who is weighing up a possible return to Stamford Bridge.
Eden Hazard joined Real Madrid in July 2019 following a glittering seven-year spell with Chelsea. However, what was a dream move for the Belgian international has morphed into a nightmare, as injuries have hampered his stint with Los Blancos considerably, reducing him to a shell of a player who arrived at the Santiago Bernabeu over two years ago.
While Hazard remained a trusted player for Zinedine Zidane despite his injuries, Carlo Ancelotti has been hesitant in using the 30-year-old much. As a result, Hazard has managed just 424 minutes of action this season, starting only five of the 23 games played by Real Madrid thus far.
The frustrations have boiled over at Real Madrid, with the club and the player ready to end their association as early as the January transfer window. And despite his struggles, there is no shortage of suitors vying for Hazard’s signature, with Chelsea among the clubs keen on signing him.
The interest from Chelsea might come as a bit of a surprise, considering Thomas Tuchel already has a well-stocked attacking unit at his disposal. However, with Christian Pulisic heavily linked with a January loan move to Barcelona, the Blues could do with a replacement, making Hazard a viable target.
While question marks loom over his fitness situation, Hazard could become an asset for Chelsea if he can rediscover his best touch. However, the west Londoners are not ready to pay a premium for Hazard in the wake of Real Madrid’s relentless pursuit of Antonio Rudiger. However, Chelsea will be delighted that Hazard is open to returning to Stamford Bridge.
As for a possible move for Hazard, Chelsea will probably table a cut-price offer to re-sign the 30-year-old. However, it is worth noting that a €25 million bid by West Ham United has already been turned down by Real Madrid. So, it will be interesting to see if Chelsea can re-sign Hazard for a sum lower than €50 million, which is the price tag set by Real Madrid.
