Transfer News: Luka Jovic open to joining AC Milan in January

Luka Jovic is reportedly prepared to end his frustrations at Real Madrid by joining Serie A giants AC Milan in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, there is some clarity as to where Luka Jovic could be headed in the January transfer window. The Serbian striker is open to joining AC Milan when he leaves Real Madrid, thereby handing a blow to Serie A champions Inter Milan.

Luka Jovic has endured a nightmare of a spell at Real Madrid since arriving from Eintracht Frankfurt in June 2019 in a mega-money deal. Tipped to be Karim Benzema’s successor, the Serb has had to suffice with playing second fiddle to the Real Madrid talisman. However, he has hardly made a mark when given a chance to impress.

As a result, the 23-year-old has become a bit-part player for Real Madrid. And in the ongoing season, he has managed just 105 minutes of action in eight appearances across all competitions. Jovic’s situation at Real Madrid has become untenable, although the drop in his levels has not detracted prospective suitors. In particular, Inter Milan and AC Milan are keen on signing him.

The interest from Inter Milan is understandable, considering Alexis Sanchez is facing an uncertain future at the club. With Edin Dzeko in the twilight of his career, he is only likely to be a short-term solution for the Serie A champions, which is why they must sign a striker, making Jovic a viable target.

AC Milan, like local rivals Inter Milan, signed a striker in the summer in Olivier Giroud. However, as is the case with Dzeko, the Frenchman is only a short-term option. And with Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the twilight of his career, the Serie A giants need to be on the lookout for a potential successor, which explains why they have joined the race to sign the Real Madrid outcast.

According to El Nacional, AC Milan are ready to buy Jovic permanently in the January transfer window but will only offer €20 million to secure his services. Real Madrid deem the sum to be too low, and they will look to bring Brahim Diaz early from his loan at San Siro as part of the deal to sell Jovic.

For his part, the 23-year-old is ready to join AC Milan instead of Inter Milan as he feels he will have a greater chance of flourishing with the Rossoneri, thereby giving him a better chance to book his ticket with Serbia for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid can reach an agreement with the Serie A giants for a permanent transfer in January.
