Transfer News: Tottenham, Manchester City told to shell out €70 million for Dusan Vlahovic

Fiorentina have slapped a whopping €70 million price tag on Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City target Dusan Vlahovic.

According to The Sun, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt with a fresh blow in their pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic. While the Fiorentina striker is available in the upcoming January transfer window, the Serie A outfit are expecting suitors to pay up a staggering €70 million in order to attain his services.

It appears Fiorentina have conceded the fact that they are going to lose out on their star forward. But with the player still having a contract until 2023, they seek to make the most of the situation financially, knowing both Spurs and Man City are capable of meeting their demands.

Tottenham, in particular, have been monitoring the progress of Vlahovic for quite some time now. Their sporting director, Fabio Paratici, is well aware of the player’s capability, being an expert in Italian football. His connections in Italy may also prove to be useful in giving Spurs the edge over Man City in potential transfer negotiations.

Both Paratici and the newly-appointed head coach, Antonio Conte, value the player highly due to his performances at Fiorentina. The youngster has notably netted 39 goals in less than 100 competitive appearances for the Viola, with 31 of his goals being scored since the start of last season.

Vlahovic’s tall frame, coupled with his goalscoring prowess, have made him an ideal long-term replacement option for Harry Kane. Incidentally, the English international has been linked with a move to Manchester City, who, in turn, are monitoring Vlahovic as a potential alternative to their top targets in Kane and Erling Haaland.

However, Fiorentina slapping a €70 million price tag on the Serb could derail Spurs’ pursuit of the striker. While the youngster is undoubtedly one of the best in Serie A, his hefty valuation could prove to be a bit too much for the Lilywhites, especially considering the fact that they do have cost-effective alternatives, including Darwin Nunez, on their radars.

Manchester City, meanwhile, are also unlikely to fork out €70 million for Vlahovic unless they once again miss out on Kane and Haaland next summer. As such, it won’t be surprising to see the Citizens spend the remainder of the campaign without a recognised forward, with Pep Guardiola likely adopting a patient approach towards solving his team’s issue in the number nine slot.
