Manchester United are reportedly set to make a move for Wilfred Ndidi, a target for Real Madrid, in the January transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United are looking to launch the offensive to sign Wilfred Ndidi in the January transfer window. Also a target for Real Madrid, the Nigerian midfielder is valued at €60 million by Leicester City.

Wilfred Ndidi has come a long way since joining Leicester City from KRC Genk in January 2017. One of the best midfielders in the Premier League, the 24-year-old has been a pivotal figure for the Foxes over the last four years.

To date, the Nigerian midfielder has turned out 187 times for Leicester, chipping in with nine goals and 11 assists in the process. His progress has not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Europe keen on signing him. Two of his prospective suitors are Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The interest from Real Madrid is hardly surprising, considering there is no viable backup for Casemiro in the first-team setup. While Federico Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga can fill in as holding midfielders, they are largely utilised in box-to-box roles.

There have even be suggestions that Casemiro could be on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu, with the likes of Newcastle United and PSG hot on his trail. So, Ndidi is a viable target for Real Madrid, who are facing stiff competition from Manchester United in his pursuit.

Midfield has been a major problem area for Manchester United this season, with the lack of an out and out holding midfielder troubling them a great deal, especially with Nemanja Matic going through a sharp decline in the past year or so. Hence, signing a holding midfielder is imperative for the Red Devils, which explains the interest in Ndidi.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United are set to pull the trigger in pursuit of Ndidi in the January transfer window. The Nigerian midfielder is valued at €60 million by Leicester City, but it is not clear if Manchester United are prepared to shell out such a sum for him.

It will also be interesting to see if Real Madrid respond to a possible offer by Manchester United with a bid of their own. With the race to sign Ndidi intensifying, it remains to be seen if the 24-year-old leaves Leicester City this coming winter.
