Inter Milan are reportedly ready to swoop in for Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, with the Serie A champions targeting free agents next summer.

According to the print edition of Gazzetta Dello Sport, as relayed by Sempre Inter, Antonio Rudiger has emerged as a transfer priority for Inter Milan for next summer’s transfer window. It appears the reigning Serie A champions are keen on shoring up their defensive options and are primarily targeting soon-to-be free agents.

The Chelsea centre-back fits the bill perfectly, as his current contract with the Blues expires at the end of the season. Rudiger is unlikely to prolong his stay in West London as he is reportedly unhappy with the club’s sheer unwillingness to meet his wage demands.

It has put Inter on red alert as the Nerazzurri brace themselves for the potential exit of Milan Skriniar. The Slovakian international has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur lately, while another experienced defender in Stefan de Vrij also faces an uncertain future at the club.

Even Alessandro Bastoni could soon become a subject of interest from major clubs across Europe. As a result, Inter are seemingly keen on adding some much-needed depth in the defensive unit, with Rudiger emerging as an ideal option.

The German international has experience in Serie A, having played for AS Roma for a couple of years. With 72 competitive appearances, Rudiger had made a solid impression for the Italian giants, eventually earning a big-money move to Chelsea in the summer of 2017.

The former Stuttgart starlet is ready to move on once again, putting an end to his Chelsea career after making a total of 164 competitive appearances so far. Last year, his contributions at the back had been critical in helping the Blues secure the Champions League title, while his leadership was also important in helping them finish in the top four in the Premier League last term.

Rudiger’s success under Thomas Tuchel has seen him being linked with a move to the biggest clubs in Europe. Real Madrid, for one, are reportedly in advanced talks with the German over a potential free transfer next summer while the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich are prepared to compete with Inter as well in the pursuit of the Chelsea defender.

Fortunately for the Serie A champions, they have no shortage of alternatives, with German international Matthias Ginter reportedly emerging as another top target for coach Simone Inzaghi next summer.
