AS Roma are reportedly considering a January move for out-of-favour Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic.

According to a report by Catalan outlet El Nacional, Luka Jovic is the subject of interest from AS Roma over a move in the January transfer window. However, the Serie A giants will need to get the Serbian striker’s valuation reduced to swoop him away from Real Madrid.

Luka Jovic joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019 amid a lot of fanfare surrounding his arrival. However, the 23-year-old has done nothing to justify the hype around him so far and has had to play second-fiddle to Karim Benzema as a result.

To date, Jovic has only managed a paltry return of two goals and three assists in 38 appearances for Real Madrid. And with his career headed nowhere at the Santiago Bernabeu, there is a sense that the Serbian striker could be on his way out of the club in the January transfer window. One of his prospective suitors are AS Roma.

AS Roma bolstered their attacking unit in the summer transfer window by signing Tammy Abraham and Eldor Shomurodov. In addition, Jose Mourinho also has Real Madrid loanee Borja Mayoral at his disposal when it comes to the options to lead the line for the Serie A giants.

However, Shomurodov has failed to impress the former Real Madrid manager while Mayoral is out of favour and likely to be sent back to Los Blancos at the earliest opportunity. With that in mind, it becomes clear why the Serie A giants would want to invest in a striker for a second successive transfer window, making Jovic a viable target.

The 23-year-old is one of several Real Madrid players on Mourinho’s radar, with the AS Roma boss also having Mariano Diaz, Dani Ceballos and Nacho in his sights. As far as the January transfer window is concerned, Jovic is an ideal candidate to reinforce the squad.

However, Roma are only willing to pay a cut-price fee to secure the services of the Serbian striker, which could end up becoming a stumbling block for them. Meanwhile, the Giallorossi are not the only Serie A club in pursuit of Jovic, who is also being courted by AC Milan, Fiorentina and Inter Milan. So, it remains to be seen if they can stave off the competition to sign Jovic this winter.
