Everton are reportedly keen on securing the services of 25-year-old AS Monaco playmaker Aleksandr Golovin.

According to Russia-based English sports correspondent Danny Armstrong, Aleksandr Golovin is the subject of interest from Everton over a potential move in a future transfer window. The 25-year-old AS Monaco playmaker has previously been a target for Manchester United.

Aleksandr Golovin joined AS Monaco from CSKA Moscow in the summer of 2018 following a stupendously successful 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign. Having played a key role in a memorable campaign at home for Russia, the young playmaker became a highly sought-after commodity in the transfer market before choosing Ligue 1 as his preferred destination.

However, the move to the Principality club has not worked out for Golovin, who has struggled to nail down a spot as a regular in the starting lineup. To date, the 25-year-old has turned out 104 times while chipping in with 16 goals and 20 assists in the process. Despite not quite hitting his peak at the Ligue 1 outfit, the Russian international has his fair share of admirers, Everton being one of them.

The interest from Everton makes sense amid heavy uncertainties surrounding the future of Gylfi Sigurdsson, who is yet to feature under Rafael Benitez. While Demarai Gray has excelled while reprising the no. 10 role, an additional option could serve the Toffees well.

To that end, Everton have been linked with a few attacking midfielders already, with Donny van de Beek, Aaron Ramsey and Jesse Lingard among those on their radar. And Golovin is the latest such playmaker to have popped up on the agenda for the Merseyside club.

While the 25-year-old has not fared as well as he would have envisioned at Monaco, he could be an upgrade on Gray if he can perform to his potential. With that in mind, Golovin appears to be a viable target for Everton.

Danny Armstrong has not revealed whether Everton are plotting a January move for the Russian playmaker or if they will wait till next summer to launch the offensive. What also remains to be seen is if Monaco are open to cashing in on Golovin or if the Ligue 1 giants look to keep hold of him.
