Chelsea have reportedly handed 16-year-old Welsh prospect, Daniel Davies, a trial as they look to bolster their youth ranks with a left-sided full-back.

According to a report from Goal.com’s Nizaar Kinsella, Chelsea have offered Wrexham AFC’s 16-year-old left-back, Daniel Davies, a trial as they eye reinforcements to their youth squad.

Davies signed for Wrexham’s youth setup at the age of 14 and is held in the highest of regards within the Welsh club. The left-back featured for the club’s senior team in their pre-season fixtures against Burnley and Fleetwood Town earlier this year, but is yet to make his official debut.

The 16-year-old recently broke into the Wales Under-18 national team, featuring in a 1-1 draw against England. Rated very highly, Davies has been scouted heavily by a number of clubs in the Premier League and the EFL Championship. Indeed, the likes of Liverpool, Brighton & Hove Albion, Stoke City are a few of the teams interested in the teenage prospect.

Among his suitors are Chelsea, who have now offered the 16-year-old Welsh starlet a trial as well. As per the report, the Blues have been on the lookout for a new left-sided full-back to strengthen their youth roster, having seen a number of young prospects leave the club in recent times.

Indeed, the Blues saw Samuel Iling-Junior leave eighteen months ago, following which they had brought in Declan Frith to fill the position. However, he was released by the west London outfit, following which he signed for Aston Villa.

Chelsea also tried to sign Bryant Akono Bilongo from non-league club Kingstonian in a deal worth £50,000 but pulled out at the end, leaving them in search of a new left-back for the Under-18s. And, now they have turned to Davies to find a solution for the position, by offering the Wrexham prodigy a trial with the club.

The report further states that should Chelsea decide to offer him a contract and sign him, they will not have to pay any compensation. While the likes of Liverpool and Stoke are also ready to offer him a trial, it is the Blues that are frontrunners to snap up the teenage prospect. It now remains to be seen if Davies’ trial at Cobham is converted into a contract.
