Transfer News: Ross Barkley considering Burnley move

Chelsea outcast Ross Barkley is reportedly considering a January switch to Burnley after falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge.

According to Turkish football journalist Ekrem Konur, Ross Barkley’s potential move to Burnley could soon gather pace, as the Chelsea playmaker is now seriously considering a switch to Turf Moor, in the upcoming January transfer.

Burnley themselves have been recently linked with a swoop for Barkley, with manager Sean Dyche keen on bolstering his creative options. The Clarets are reportedly prepared to pay a large chunk of the Chelsea midfielder’s wages in order to snap him up on a short-term loan deal, during the second half of the campaign.

The Premier League minnows have not made a great start to the campaign and are dawdling on the bottom end of the table with just three points in eight matches. Having scored only five goals, they have the second-worst attack in the league.

Dyche is hoping to get rid of this issue by signing Barkley, who can offer some much-needed juice in the creative unit. The former Everton ace can be quite productive as well and would welcome a move to Turf Moor, as it will offer him the opportunity to potentially revive his career after stuttering at Chelsea.

Barkley, after all, has endured a difficult time since returning from his loan spell at Aston Villa this past summer. The midfielder has featured in only three competitive matches for Chelsea, none of which have been starts.

It appears the Englishman has fallen behind the likes of Saul Niguez, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount in the pecking order. Hence, Chelsea themselves will be keen on offloading the 27-year-old, knowing his departure will pave the way for the Blues to focus on their January targets.

The reigning European champions have been linked with quite a few midfield talents, including AS Monaco’s rising star Aurelien Tchouameni. The sale of Barkley, albeit on a temporary basis, could open up some much-needed space in the squad while relieving his hefty wages could serve as a financial boost as well.

Burnley are not the only club linked with a move for Barkley, however, with the 27-year-old also being a subject of discussion at West Bromwich Albion. The Clarets’ Premier League status will certainly give them the upper hand, but it will be interesting to see whether any other club joins the chase to sign this Chelsea outcast, in the upcoming January transfer window.
