Real Madrid are reportedly interested in Franck Kessie and are weighing up the possibility of signing the 24-year-old AC Milan midfielder in January.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid have set their sights on Franck Kessie over a potential move in the January transfer window. The possibility of signing the AC Milan midfielder on a free transfer next summer remains as well.

Franck Kessie has transformed into a powerhouse of a midfielder since joining AC Milan from Atalanta. Initially signed on loan in the summer of 2017, the 24-year-old made the permanent switch to San Siro two years later and he has not looked back since.

To date, Kessie has turned out 191 times for AC Milan while chipping in with 30 goals and 15 assists along the way. However, the Serie A giants appear set to lose the Ivorian on a free transfer next summer, as he is seemingly running down his contract at San Siro without really coming close to penning a renewal. Such a situation has now piqued the interest of Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have been touted to be set to enter the transfer market for a midfielder next summer, despite signing Eduardo Camavinga in the summer. That is because Luka Modric is in the twilight of his storied career while Toni Kroos is also approaching the final phase of his playing days.

With Isco surplus to requirements and Dani Ceballos likely to be offloaded as well, it goes without saying that signing another midfielder would be a step in the right direction for Real Madrid. To that end, the Merengues have been linked with Tanguy Ndombele, Marcelo Brozovic and Donny van de Beek among others.

Kessie, too, is a viable target for Los Blancos, who are now considering the prospect of securing the services of the 24-year-old midfield powerhouse in the January transfer window instead of waiting till next summer, when competition for his services will be high amid interest from Liverpool, Manchester United and Barcelona.

There is a feeling that Milan would prefer a cut-price January deal as well, especially if they are unable to turn Kessie’s head and agree a new long-term deal with him. For now, Kessie has emerged as a target for Real Madrid and it remains to be seen if they execute a winter move for him or if he stays put with the Serie A giants till at least the summer transfer window.
