Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund’s 18-year-old attacking sensation Giovanni Reyna.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Giovanni Reyna has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid over a move in next summer’s transfer window. The Spanish giants are hoping to take advantage of their impending negotiations with Borussia Dortmund for Erling Haaland to discuss a move for the 18-year-old attacking sensation as well.
Giovanni Reyna has been with Borussia Dortmund since 2019, having joined their youth setup from the New York City FC academy. And in just a year’s time, the American prodigy managed to make his first-team breakthrough featuring a fair bit in the second half of the 2019/20 season before becoming a regular feature for the Bundesliga giants last season.
To date, Reyna has made 69 appearances for Dortmund, chipping in with 10 goals and 11 assists in the process. His progress over the last couple of years has invariably caught the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with Real Madrid the latest bigwig to have set their sights on the 18-year-old.
Real Madrid are already in the hunt for one Dortmund ace in Erling Haaland, with widespread reports suggesting they are the favourites to secure his services next year. However, while Haaland will arrive as a potential successor Karim Benzema, there appears to be a need to bolster the wide attacking slots as well.
Indeed, Eden Hazard’s struggles are not letting up, even though there is optimism of a better campaign from him in 2021/22. In addition, Marco Asensio is starting to become a bit-part player while Gareth Bale continues to face his own fitness woes at Real Madrid.
So, even though a move for Kylian Mbappe could be in the offing, another attacker could be sought by Real Madrid. To that end, Reyna is a viable target for Real Madrid, who are hoping to take advantage of their impending talks with Borussia Dortmund for Haaland to discuss a move for the 18-year-old American attacking sensation as well.

What now remains to be seen is if Los Blancos end up firming their interest in Reyna in the weeks and months to come or if they set their sights on some other player instead. For now, the USMNT international is the latest teenage sensation to have popped up on Real Madrid’s radar.
