Barcelona and Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a possible January move for 19-year-old German sensation Karim Adeyemi.

According to a report by Transfer Market Web, Barcelona and Liverpool are set to step up their efforts to sign Karim Adeyemi. In fact, the two European powerhouses could make their move for the 19-year-old German sensation as early as the January transfer window.

Karim Adeyemi has enjoyed a sensational rise to prominence since returning to Red Bull Salzburg from his loan spell at FC Liefering. After an impressive second half of the 2020/21 campaign, the teenage prodigy has made his mark in the early stages of the new season, with seven goals and one assist in nine appearances so far.

His progress has also helped the 19-year-old to break into the German national side and he was even on target on debut against Armenia in the recently concluded international break. And his advent in 2021 has alerted a number of top clubs across Europe as well, with Barcelona and Liverpool, in particular, keen on signing him.

The interest from Barcelona is understandable considering neither Sergio Aguero nor Luuk de Jong will be long-term solutions in attack. However, a January move for the German sensation does not make a lot of sense, seeing as the two strikers – as well as Martin Braithwaite – ought to be utilised by Ronald Koeman.

For Liverpool, on the other hand, Adeyemi could come of use almost immediately, seeing as Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah will be unavailable for much of January owing to their potential participation in the Africa Cup of Nations. With the duo missing, Jurgen Klopp will have just Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino at his disposal apart from backup options.

So, Adeyemi is a viable target for Liverpool for the January transfer window, when he could arrive as an immediate solution before honing his skills under the guidance of Firmino, Salah and Mane. The Reds, though, are set to face competition from Barcelona for the 19-year-old this winter.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid have also been linked with Adeyemi, although there is no indication as to whether they will make a move for him in January. For now, Barcelona and Liverpool are the only clubs seriously pondering a winter swoop for the teenage sensation and it remains to be seen if he follows Erling Haaland and Patson Daka to leave Salzburg for a big European club.
