Manchester City are reportedly among the clubs that are considering a move for 23-year-old French defender Theo Hernandez.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Manchester City are interested in signing Theo Hernandez. The 23-year-old French defender, who is also the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain, still has three years left for his AC Milan contract to run out.
Theo Hernandez has seen his career take off brilliantly since he joined AC Milan from Real Madrid in the summer of 2019. Rated as a prodigious left-back up until that point, the youngster had not quite managed to make an impression for Los Blancos, but has progressed considerably in the last two years.
To date, the 23-year-old has made 83 appearances for the Rossoneri, chipping in with 15 goals and 14 assists along the way. His progress since joining Milan has helped Hernandez capture the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. And currently, Manchester City are showing an interest in the French defender.
The interest from Manchester City makes a world of sense, considering Benjamin Mendy seems to have played his final game for the club amid a criminal case against him. Beyond the French defender, Pep Guardiola does not have any other natural left-back at his disposal, having used Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo as the left-backs instead.
Even Aymeric Laporte, a centre-back, has been utilised out wide at times, meaning the need to sign a left-back cannot be overstated. As a result, Manchester City were even linked heavily with Nuno Mendes in the summer transfer window before Paris Saint-Germain ended up swooping him away instead.
Speaking of PSG, they also seem to be eyeing a potential move for Theo Hernandez, which comes as a surprise, seeing as Mendes is one of three left-backs in the first-team setup. As for Manchester City, the 23-year-old is certainly a viable target.
The report, though, does not mention whether Hernandez is being targeted for a potential move in the January transfer window or next summer. However, with three years still left on his AC Milan contract, the French defender ought to command a hefty price tag. For now, Manchester City have appeared in his pursuit and it remains to be seen if they launch the offensive for him soon.
