Premier League giants Manchester City and Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on Colombian winger Emerson Rodriguez according to the player’s agent.
A report on Goal.com suggests Manchester City and Chelsea are among clubs to keep tabs on Colombian winger Emerson Rodriguez. The news comes directly from the player’s agent, who revealed the update while talking about his other clients from South America.
Emerson Rodriguez is a 21-year-old right-winger currently playing for Colombian outfit Millonarios FC. Many European clubs have reportedly watched his performances for the club, as is the case with many other players coming into the focus of club scouts.
Rodriguez has played a total of 38 games at the senior level, scoring six goals and registering as many assists so far. And early signs suggest, the player could be on the rise and improve his end product. If that happens, some team from Europe or Brazil could sign him up, although so far, there are only whispers of a move elsewhere.
The player’s agent, Diego Carannante, was recently quoted saying Manchester City and Chelsea might be interested in the Colombian winger. He said, “As a winger, I would recommend Emerson Rodriguez Rivaldo, a Colombian born in 2001, also owned by Millonarios and already watched by City and Chelsea.”
How much of that news holds credibility is another question altogether. However, the Premier League giants have shown an inclination towards upcoming stars to be integrated into their setup. And, if Rodriguez keeps up his performances, the chances of these clubs alongside others watching him increase.
Manchester City, in particular, have been dipping into the South American market for young talents. Fluminese youngster Kayky was signed by the club recently, although he is yet to arrive. Meanwhile, Man City’s holding company, the City Football Group, brokered a deal for Metinho, who will play for French club Troyes.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have always shown interest in signing promising young players. The Blues have a vast network within the loan market. As seen for so many years, the Stamford Bridge side have a sort of a loan army at their disposal. Players signed from many clubs go on loan deals season after season, earning significant revenue.
However, as far as Emerson Rodriguez goes, there might be lingering interest in the winger, although nothing substantial at this time. The two clubs might continue to keep tabs on him and assess the possibility of signing him in the future.
