Barcelona are reportedly set to offer out-of-favour Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho in the deal to sign Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

According to a report by Sky Sports, Barcelona seem to be making their move to secure the services of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before the summer transfer window slams shut. The Catalan club are ready to offer Philippe Coutinho in a part-exchange deal for the Arsenal forward.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was an instant hit at the Emirates after joining Arsenal from Borussia Dortmund in January 2018. Prolific as ever in the first 30 months of his stint with the Gunners, there seemed to be very little stopping the 32-year-old, who was even promoted to club captain role in the 2019/20 season.

However, 2020/21 ended up being a season to forget for Aubameyang, who managed just 15 goals and four assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. Things now seem to have reached a head at Arsenal, with reports claiming that the club will not be averse to the idea of parting ways with the Gabonese forward, which has piqued the interest of Barcelona.

Barcelona hold a long-standing interest in Aubameyang, having attempted to sign him a couple of years ago as well. The continued interest in the experienced forward makes sense, though, despite his decline in the past year or so, as it appears to be a case of struggles borne out of a poor system more than anything.

At Barcelona, Aubameyang could form a devastating attacking trio also comprising of new signing Memphis Depay as well as Antoine Griezmann. Having said that, if the Arsenal captain does join Barcelona, he could be in a rotation role along with Sergio Aguero as well.

Nevertheless, it looks like Barcelona are serious about signing the 32-year-old, with the report claiming that the Blaugrana are prepared to offer Philippe Coutinho in the deal to sign him. The out-of-favour Brazilian midfielder has recently been offered to Leicester City, but it looks like Arsenal might as well be his next destination.

Arsenal have previously been interested in Coutinho, but now seem to be edging closer to signing Martin Odegaard to bolster their creative ranks. Meanwhile, the reliable Fabrizio Romano has said that Barcelona are not currently negotiating for Aubameyang and with that being said, it remains to be seen if suggestions about a swap deal involving Coutinho are true at all.

  1. Let him go, he didn’t do any thing last season.
Scoring just 15 & four assists, it’s better he live.
