Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly locking horns with Atletico Madrid in the race to sign 30-year-old Italian international Lorenzo Insigne.

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, the race to sign Lorenzo Insigne in the summer transfer window is intensifying constantly. Atletico Madrid are the latest club to have been linked with the 30-year-old Italian international, who is also the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur and AC Milan, and is valued at around €30 million.

Lorenzo Insigne has been with Napoli since he joined their youth setup in 2006. And since his breakthrough campaign with the first-team in the 2012/13 season, the player has not looked back. Now the club captain for the Partenopei, the 30-year-old has amassed 397 appearances for the club while racking up a tally of 109 goals and 85 assists.

Most recently, Insigne has been a part of the triumphant Italy side at UEFA Euro 2020, where he was one of the best players on show for the Azzurri. However, at club level, the Italian international faces an uncertain future, with his current deal running out next summer while there has been little to no development on the renewal front. This situation has alerted Tottenham and Atletico Madrid.

The interest from Tottenham is understandable, as Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn have often left a lot to be desired, while Gareth Bale has returned to Real Madrid following the expiration of his loan deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This leaves Nuno Espirito Santo with Son Heung-min and Harry Kane as the only reliable attackers at his disposal.

With Kane’s future being far from secure, it is but obvious that Spurs will wish to bolster their attack, with Mikkel Damsgaard among those on their radar. And Insigne, too, is a viable target for Tottenham, although they now face stiff competition from Atletico Madrid in his pursuit.

Atletico Madrid are in the market for an attacking reinforcement as well, with Ousmane Dembele one of several wide forwards linked with a potential switch to the Wanda Metropolitano. With Angel Correa facing an uncertain future at the club and Joao Felix blowing hot and cold this past season, signing someone like Insigne will be a step in the right direction.

As per the report, €30 million would be a fair price for the 30-year-old, although it is unclear if either club are prepared to shell out such a sum for him. Meanwhile, in addition to Tottenham and Atletico Madrid, AC Milan are also hot on the trails of the Italian international, who has also been linked with Barcelona and Liverpool.

What now remains to be seen is if Napoli can do anything to tie Insigne down to a brand new deal, thereby ending all the speculation surrounding his future. If not, we could well see Tottenham, AC Milan and Atletico Madrid launch the offensive for the UEFA Euro 2020 winner.
