Transfer News: Real Madrid plot N’Golo Kante swoop

Real Madrid have reportedly set their sights on French midfielder N’Golo Kante, who could leave Chelsea if they sign Eduardo Camavinga.

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Real Madrid are interested in signing N’Golo Kante in the summer transfer window. The French midfielder could leave Chelsea if they end up securing the services of Eduardo Camavinga ahead of the 2020/21 season.

Kante has established himself as a central midfield extraordinaire since arriving in Premier League by joining Leicester City in the summer of 2015. After inspiring the Foxes to a shock league triumph in his maiden campaign, the 30-year-old secured a big move to Chelsea while also making the grade in the French national side for good.

To date, Kante has amassed 218 appearances for the Blues, chipping in with 11 goals and 10 assists while also winning three major honours, including the UEFA Champions League this past season. His constant progress and versatility, though, has attracted several big-name clubs to him, with Real Madrid reigniting their interest in the French international.

Real Madrid are touted to be set to bolster their midfield this summer, and for good reason, with Luka Modric in the twilight of his career. In addition, Toni Kroos is on the wrong side of 30 and is also slowly approaching the final phase of his career.

As a result, Los Blancos are in need of adding a central midfielder this summer, especially with both Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard continuing to face an uncertain future at the club. To that end, Real Madrid have been linked with several midfielders of late, including Lucas Paqueta, with Chelsea midfielder Kante emerging as the latest viable target on their radar.

While at a conventional time, one would not expect Kante to want to leave Chelsea or the Blues to cash in on one of their most prized assets. However, with the Premier League heavyweights hot on the trails of Eduardo Camavinga, an opportunity could have been created for Real Madrid.

For now, it is not certain that Kante will push for an exit from Chelsea. However, former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid are keenly following the situation, and it will not be surprising to see Real Madrid launch the offensive for him in the summer transfer window. An intriguing next few weeks beckon Kante, Chelsea and Real Madrid.
