Transfer News: Jeremy Doku on Real Madrid radar

Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on 19-year-old Rennes forward Jeremy Doku, who enjoyed a breakout campaign at UEFA Euro 2020.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid have been tracking Jeremy Doku, and a move in the summer transfer window could be a possibility. The 19-year-old enjoyed a superb breakout campaign with Belgium at UEFA Euro 2020, which, along with his performances last season for Rennes, have left Los Blancos impressed.

Jeremy Doku joined Stade Rennais from Anderlecht last summer and enjoyed a solid debut campaign, even if he was not prolific enough in the final third. So far at Rennes, the Belgian international has made 37 appearances but only has a tally of two goals and four assists to show for his efforts.

However, his performances at club level have grabbed a lot of eyeballs, with his breakout campaign at UEFA Euro 2020 with Belgium, which included a valiant effort in defeat to Italy, have attracted even more prospective suitors. The latest club to have been linked with the 19-year-old forward are Real Madrid.

The Spanish giants have, in fact, been closely monitoring Doku’s progress for a couple of years now, having also kept tabs on him while he was at Anderlecht. However, Real Madrid are worried about his output in the final third, with his returns last season indeed being a bit concerning.

Los Blancos feel he could be a player of the same ilk as Vinicius Jr., who has often frustrated with his profligacy in front of goal. Nevertheless, with Doku showing some promising signs, he could be a viable target for Real Madrid in future, if not this summer, if compatriot Eden Hazard continues to struggle on the fitness front.

In addition, with youngsters like Marco Asensio, Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Jr. also blowing hot and cold, it could be worthwhile to keep having a closer look at the 19-year-old. Meanwhile, Doku is not the only teenage prodigy being tracked to be a future first-team star at Real Madrid, with Portuguese whizkid Herculano Nabian also on their radar.

Doku has also been linked with Liverpool for a long time, and the queue of suitors will only grow further with more impressive performances like the one against Italy in the UEFA Euro 2020 quarter-finals. For now, Real Madrid are among the clubs keeping a keen eye on his progress, and it will be interesting to see if they make a move for the Belgian forward anytime soon.
