Transfer News: Chelsea in advanced talks with Aston Villa for Tammy Abraham

Chelsea are reportedly in advanced talks with Aston Villa to part ways with Tammy Abraham in a deal that could go up to €45 million.

According to Rudy Galetti, Aston Villa are stepping up their efforts to land Tammy Abraham in the summer transfer window. The Villans are in advanced talks with Chelsea over a deal for the English striker, with an offer worth €45 million in the works at Villa Park.

Tammy Abraham joined Chelsea at the under-eight level in 2004 and made fine progress in the Blues’ youth setup before breaking into their first-team squad in 2016. However, it was not until the 2019/20 season, under the tutelage of Frank Lampard, that the 23-year-old finally established a foothold in the Chelsea first-team.

During this period, he also became a full-fledged English international, only for his fortunes to plummet after just one fine season. In fact, 2020/21 was a forgettable campaign for Abraham, who started just 18 matches across all competitions, although he still had a fine tally of 12 goals and six assists to show for his efforts.

However, with Thomas Tuchel barely utilising him in the second half of the season, Abraham is hell-bent on leaving Chelsea to seek a new challenge in his career. His next destination could be a club he is familiar with, as Aston Villa are eager to make a move for the Englishman.

The interest from Aston Villa is interesting, considering Ollie Watkins enjoyed a stunning debut campaign this past term. Despite that, though, the Midlands outfit appear to be keen on signing a striker yet again this summer, perhaps owing to Wesley’s struggles since sustaining his long-term knee issue.

Aston Villa are, in fact, set to make a big move for Abraham, with a club-record bid in the works. And as per Rudy Galetti, the Villans are preparing a bid worth up to €45 million, with Chelsea in advanced talks with the club over a possible summer transfer.

Galetti has also added that Abraham could well leave Chelsea soon, which does put Aston Villa in a strong position heading into the summer transfer window. It now remains to be seen if a €45 million bid is enough for the Midlands club to swoop Tammy Abraham away from the Blues this summer.
