Leeds United and West Ham United are reportedly among the clubs that are interested in signing Junior Firpo from Barcelona this summer.

As reported by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Junior Firpo might not have much of a future at Barcelona but still has his fair share of suitors in the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old is courted by Leeds United and West Ham United, with a few other clubs also hot on his trails.

Junior Firpo joined Barcelona from Real Betis in the summer of 2019 amid a lot of hype around him. However, over the last couple of years, the 24-year-old defender has failed to make any sort of impression at Camp Nou, hardly justifying the outlay made for him by the Blaugrana.

While he was always going to play second fiddle to Jordi Alba initially, the player has not even taken his opportunities in the game wherein the veteran full-back has been given a breather. And it was more of the same in 2020/21, wherein he managed to rake in just 844 minutes of game-time, amassing 18 appearances for Barcelona.

With Barcelona now in the market for a left-back again heading into the summer transfer window and having eyed Marcos Alonso, Jose Gaya and Robin Gosens, among others, it is clear that Junior Firpo’s time at Camp Nou is nearly over. However, he does not have a shortage of suitors, with the likes of Leeds United and West Ham United keen on signing him.

Leeds United are in a precarious position over the future of Ezgjan Alioski, who is tipped to depart Elland Road this summer as a free agent. As a result, the Whites have been forced to enter the market for a left-back, with Miguel Gutierrez and Marcelo among the options linked previously.

West Ham, on the other hand, have already been linked with a couple of Barcelona outcasts in Neto and Martin Braithwaite, with the Premier League giants now turning their attention towards Firpo. The interest in the 24-year-old is not unfounded either, amid Arthur Masuaku’s fitness woes this past season.

Apart from Leeds and West Ham, Southampton, Inter Milan and AC Milan are also tailing Junior Firpo, thereby possibly setting up an all out transfer battle for his services. What now remains to be seen is if the 24-year-old’s next destination turns out to be the Premier League or if some other club swoops him away instead, with his Barcelona future bleak.
