Transfer News: Chelsea set to offer €60 million for Alexander Isak

Chelsea are prepared to shell out €60 million for the services of Alexander Isak, as the striker continues to impress in the UEFA Euro 2020.

According to El Gol Digital, Chelsea are considering a move for Alexander Isak, with Thomas Tuchel keen on finding some competition for Timo Werner. The Real Sociedad striker has emerged as an ideal option, after impressing in La Liga and indeed in the European Championship with Sweden.

The Blues are even prepared to fork out €60 million for the services of Isak, but it does not meet the 21-year-old striker’s €70 million release Real Sociedad. The Spanish outfit also face a delicate situation as the player’s previous club Borussia Dortmund have an option to activate the buyback clause that will force them to send Isak back to Germany for just €30 million.

Although Dortmund are not actively looking for a striker this summer, they could use the clause to their advantage, selling Isak to Chelsea even for just €60 million in order to make a quick €30 million profit. The additional profit could go a long way in helping them in their pursuit of Donyell Malen, who has been identified as the desired replacement for Jadon Sancho, who is tipped for a move to Manchester United.

Chelsea’s interest in Isak, meanwhile, suggests that Tuchel is indeed doubling down on his desire to sign a new forward in the summer. He has worked with the young striker before, during his time at Dortmund.

The German tactician, though, was not an admirer of Isak, who eventually moved to Willem II on loan in 2019 before joining Sociedad for a fee of €6.5 million. It turned out to be a bargain, as the 21-year-old forward has netted 33 goals in just 89 competitive appearances since joining La Real.

Under the leadership of Imanol Alguacil, Isak has significantly improved his physical prowess while scoring goals for fun. It has made him an ideal candidate for Chelsea, as they prepare for life without Tammy Abraham, who is a target for West Ham United among many other Premier League clubs.

At Stamford Bridge, Isak can add some much-needed competition for Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud. He is also a more natural number nine, meaning his presence in the Chelsea first-team setup could ultimately end up improving players around him including Werner and Kai Havertz.

It will be interesting to see how Isak himself performs for Sweden during the remainder of Sweden’s UEFA Euro 2020 campaign. With Zlatan Ibrahimovic ruled out, the pressure is on him to become the country’s main source of productivity. As for his future at club level, it remains to be seen if Chelsea can land him with a €60 million bid.
