Barcelona are reportedly readying a shock double swap offer to sign Portuguese duo Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo from Manchester City this summer.
As reported by Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona seem to stepping up their efforts to continue their raid on Manchester City in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants are prepared to offer Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembele in a shock double swap to land Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo.
Cancelo joined Manchester City from Juventus in the summer of 2019 and has since been rotated quite intensely by Pep Guardiola, who has been infamous for making major alterations in just about every game. The Portuguese international, though, still managed to enjoy a solid 2020/21 campaign, turning out 43 times for the Citizens, while chipping in with 3 goals and 5 assists.
Bernardo Silva, on the other hand, is completing his fourth year at Manchester City and has been on a roller-coaster of a ride in this period. 2020/21, though, was a memorable season for the 26-year-old, who was a regular in the starting lineups, featuring 45 times in all competitions. However, heading into the summer transfer window, it looks like both Silva and Cancelo could leave City, with Barcelona alerted to their availability.
Barcelona have already completed two signings from Manchester City, with Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia arriving at Camp Nou on free transfers. However, that has not stopped the Blaugrana from courting even more players at the Etihad, having been linked with nearly half a dozen City stars.
These include Ilkay Gundogan, Aymeric Laporte and Raheem Sterling, with Silva and Cancelo the latest to have popped up on their radar. And Barcelona are now preparing a shock double swap offer to secure the services of the Portuguese duo, with Sergi Roberto and Ousmane Dembele on offer.
Roberto has coincidentally been the subject of interest from Manchester City and the fact that he is a part of the swap offer could potentially turn their head. Having said that, it is still unclear whether the Premier League champions would be open to signing Dembele, which potentially puts Barcelona’s plans in jeopardy.
As for their targets, City are open to the prospect of offloading Silva, who has also been linked with Atletico Madrid. As for Cancelo, following a solid campaign, it might be a bit of a shocker to see him depart the Etihad. Signing the Portuguese right-back might not be a prudent move on Barcelona’s part either unless they plan to cash in on Emerson. Nevertheless, an intriguing transfer saga is on the horizon.
