Liverpool are reportedly in talks to sign 24-year-old Leicester City playmaker Youri Tielemans, who is open to a switch to Anfield.

According to Daniel Nielson, Liverpool have stepped up their efforts to secure the services of Youri Tielemans in the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old Belgian playmaker is in talks with the Reds and is open to making a switch across the Premier League ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Tielemans joined Leicester City from AS Monaco in January 2019 and has since established himself as one of the best creative players on show in the Premier League. 2020/21, in particular, proved to be a season to remember for the 24-year-old, who was the Player of the Year for the Foxes and played a key role in their FA Cup triumph as well.

In 51 games across all competitions, he scored nine goals and provided six assists for Leicester. However, the Belgian international could very well have played his final game for the former Premier League champions after their failure to clinch a top-four finish yet again. And, keeping a keen eye on his situation are Liverpool.

Liverpool are planning for life after Georginio Wijnaldum, who has departed Anfield as a free agent and is set to join Paris Saint-Germain on a Bosman move. In order to find an ideal replacement, the Merseyside giants have taken a look at a number of midfielders, and the keenness to bolster the midfield department is not unfounded.

With Naby Keita struggling to remain fit for stretched periods and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain not managing to earn the trust of Jurgen Klopp, there is little in terms of reserve strength. Tielemans is, therefore, an option worth considering for Liverpool, who can add a tinge of creativity that Wijnaldum simply could not.

In fact, Liverpool have already opened talks with the 24-year-old playmaker, who is open to making the switch to Anfield this summer. However, the transfer fee could prove to be a sticking point for the Reds, who will attempt to drive down the asking price.

In addition, Liverpool will also look to cash in on their deadwood to raise the funds necessary to secure the services of the Belgian international. However, Daniel Nielson has claimed that other clubs could provide competition to Liverpool, and it remains to be seen if they can move quickly to swoop Tielemans from their Premier League rivals Leicester.
