Transfer News: Real Madrid slap €50 million price tag on Marco Asensio

Real Madrid will reportedly be looking to recoup €50 million for Marco Asensio, if they look to offload the struggling Spanish forward.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid currently consider Marco Asensio to be non-transferable heading into the summer transfer window. However, Los Blancos will consider cashing in on the Spanish international if a suitor pays €50 million for him.

Asensio progressed through the ranks at Real Mallorca before making grade in their first-team setup in 2013. Scouted aggressively by Barcelona and Real Madrid during his youth footballing days, the Spanish forward was snapped up by the Merengues in 2014. And, after a loan spell with Espanyol, he slowly started to establish a foothold in the first-team setup at the Bernabeu.

It is in the 2017/18 season when he finally started to blossom as somewhat of a key figure for Real Madrid before a long-term injury curtailed his development during the 2019/20 season. That has proven to be a scourge for Asensio, who has been struggling to make an impact on a consistent basis since returning to action.

As a result, in the season gone by, the 25-year-old was constantly in and out of the starting lineup, even though he ended up making 48 appearances across all competitions. However, a paltry return of 7 goals and 2 assists points towards just how poor Asensio has been over the past year or so.

As a result, it has been suggested that the Spanish international could be on his way out of Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, with reports claiming that he might be open to an exit. However, as per the report, Real Madrid have no intention of selling Asensio just yet, as they believe that he still has unfulfilled potential.

The Merengues, therefore, do not want to miss out on such a potential explosion of said promise and want to retain his services going into the 2021/22 season. Having said that, Real Madrid will consider selling him if a suitor is prepared to shell out their €50 million asking price.

What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid do receive a formal offer in the region of their €50 million valuation of the 25-year-old Spanish forward. If not then Asensio looks set to stay put in the Spanish capital beyond the summer transfer window.
