Transfer News: West Ham to make loan offer for Chelsea star Tammy Abraham

West Ham United are reportedly set to table an offer to Chelsea in order to sign Tammy Abraham on loan in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by The Athletic, West Ham United are set to step up their efforts to secure the services of Tammy Abraham in the summer transfer window. The Hammers will make a loan offer to London rivals Chelsea for the out-of-favour English striker, who is expected to complete a switch to another club ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Tammy Abraham has seen his stock plummet considerably following a breakthrough campaign with Chelsea last term. Having already been forced to share game-time after the arrival of Timo Werner, the English international has gone completely out of favour since Thomas Tuchel took charge at Stamford Bridge.

Indeed, Abraham has featured a mere 7 times since scoring a hat-trick in Frank Lampard’s last game in-charge of Chelsea, with the likes of Olivier Giroud, Kai Havertz and Werner all ahead of him in the pecking order for strikers. Therefore, it is hardly surprising that the 23-year-old now wants to move away from Chelsea this coming summer.

There is no shortage of interest in Abraham, though, with the likes of Newcastle United, Leicester City and Aston Villa among the clubs that have been linked with him. Another such suitor are West Ham United, who present an interesting case for the Chelsea striker.

The interest from West Ham is not really surprising, considering they are yet to replenish the place of Sebastien Haller following his move to Ajax in January. Haller’s departure has left David Moyes with Michail Antonio as the only striker at his disposal, which is why the need to sign another centre-forward in Abraham is rather imperative.

Indeed, with the East London outfit looking set to play European football next season, Moyes will need to have his squad bolstered, making Abraham a viable target. However, Chelsea’s £40 million valuation of the 23-year-old is proving to be a stumbling block for West Ham, who are unwilling to part with such a sum to land the English striker.

Instead, West Ham are set to make an attempt to sign Abraham on loan, and they also reckon that none of his suitors can afford his £40 million price tag. If that actually proves to be the case Chelsea might not have any option but to accept a loan offer for Abraham, and it remains to be seen if he ends up joining their London rivals this summer.
