Arsenal have reportedly held talks to sign Real Madrid superstar Lucas Vazquez on a Bosman deal in the summer transfer window.

English journalist Leah Smith has claimed that Arsenal recently held a meeting with the entourage of Lucas Vazquez over the possibility of signing him on a free this summer transfer window. In addition, the Real Madrid superstar’s representatives are also in talks with several other Premier League clubs, apart from PSG and Bayern Munich.

Lucas Vazquez has, for years, been one of the most dependable players for Real Madrid without ever being viewed as a pivotal figure at the club. The ongoing season, though, saw the Spaniard impress to no end before being sidelined with a knee injury.

In 34 outings this season, the 29-year-old has a tally of 2 goals and 8 assists, which is nothing short of impressive since a great number of his appearances came as a right-back. However, Vazquez has question marks surrounding his future at Real Madrid as he has been unable to reach an agreement with Los Blancos over a new deal, with his current contract running out in the summer. This has alerted Arsenal, among others.

Initial reports suggested that Arsenal had been approached by the player’s representatives over a possible Bosman move. It now looks like the Gunners are seriously considering a transfer, although it is unclear as to which position they intend to bolster with the Real Madrid superstar’s addition.

Arsenal are in need of a right-back and have been linked with Tariq Lamptey among others, considering Hector Bellerin is being tipped for a summer departure, while Cedric Soares is only viewed as a rotation option. To that end, Vazquez could be a viable target for the right-back slot, considering he seamlessly reprised the role this term at Real Madrid in the absence of Dani Carvajal.

Alternatively, the 29-year-old could even be an option for the right wing berth, although Bukayo Saka seems to have nailed down that spot in recent months. Nevertheless, a Bosman move for the Spaniard does make sense for Arsenal, who have held talks with his agents recently. Apart from the north Londoners, Manchester United have also been reported to be interested in Vazquez.

In a separate tweet, Leah Smith has confirmed that the Red Devils are set for talks over the coming fortnight. Apart from Arsenal and United, PSG and Bayern Munich are also in talks with Vazquez and it will be interesting to see if the Gunners can beat the heavyweight competition to seal a Bosman move for the Real Madrid superstar if they cannot offer European football next season.
